Agata Zanche is a photographer and filmmaker based in Milan. She graduated in Design della Comunicazione from Politecnico di Milano, where she developed a practice combining visual research, documentary storytelling and moving image.
Her work focuses on people, places and everyday rituals, with particular attention to identity, memory and the relationship between individuals and their environments. She works across editorial photography, short films, cultural commissions and independent projects.
From communication design to image-making
During her studies, Agata explored photography and film as tools for observation and interpretation.
She developed projects spanning visual narratives, editorial systems and audiovisual experimentation, building a method grounded in research, fieldwork and close collaboration with the people involved.
Her final project investigated the transformation of small urban communities through a series of photographs, interviews and short documentary films.
Professional journey
After graduating, Agata began working as an assistant photographer and production coordinator in Milan.
She later collaborated with magazines, cultural institutions and design studios, producing portraits, documentary series and branded films. Her work gradually expanded into directing, allowing her to shape projects from the initial concept to shooting, editing and final delivery.
Today, she works independently with a network of producers, editors, sound designers and creative directors.
Current practice
Agata’s assignments range from editorial portraits and photographic reportages to campaign films and short documentaries.
Her approach combines careful preparation with space for spontaneity during production. She often works with natural light, small crews and real locations, aiming for images that feel precise, direct and emotionally grounded.
Alongside commissioned work, she develops personal projects that explore local cultures, landscapes and forms of belonging.
Perspective
Photography and film help me stay close to reality while shaping a clear point of view. Every project begins with observation, listening and time spent inside a context.
Agata also contributes to workshops and portfolio reviews, sharing her experience with students interested in photography, documentary practice and audiovisual communication.
