Nicolas Trevino

Creative Director @ DesignStudio

Nicola Trevino is a communication designer and creative director based in London. He graduated in Design della Comunicazione from Politecnico di Milano, where he developed an interest in visual identities, editorial systems and the role of design within complex organisations.

After graduating, he worked across branding, digital products and cultural projects in Milan, Amsterdam and London. His practice gradually moved from visual design towards creative direction, with a focus on building coherent identities across strategy, language, motion and digital experiences.

Today, Nicola is Creative Director at DesignStudio, where he leads multidisciplinary teams working on international branding projects for companies, institutions and emerging ventures.

From Politecnico to creative direction

During his studies, Nicola explored the relationship between identity and interaction, combining graphic design, moving image and digital prototyping.

The experience of working in collaborative studios helped him develop a broad approach to the project: defining a visual direction, understanding the context around it and coordinating different skills towards a shared outcome.

His final project investigated how cultural institutions can create recognisable digital identities while adapting their communication to different audiences, formats and moments.

Professional journey

Nicola began his career as a junior designer at a small branding studio in Milan, contributing to identity systems, publications and exhibition projects.

He later moved to Amsterdam, where he worked with international teams on digital platforms and brand experiences. In 2021, he joined DesignStudio in London as a senior designer and subsequently progressed to associate creative director and creative director.

His recent work includes brand transformations, global identity systems and digital launches across the technology, mobility and cultural sectors.

Current role

As Creative Director, Nicola oversees projects from the initial strategic phase to their final expression.

His role includes defining creative directions, guiding design teams, presenting work to clients and ensuring consistency across visual identity, verbal identity, motion and digital touchpoints.

He also contributes to internal mentoring and supports younger designers as they develop their own methods and areas of expertise.

Perspective

Design education gave me a way to connect research, visual culture and practical experimentation. The most valuable lesson was learning to move between the detail of an artefact and the wider system it belongs to.

Nicola sees communication design as a collaborative discipline shaped by continuous dialogue between people, organisations and technologies.

He remains connected to academic contexts through lectures, portfolio reviews and occasional workshops for design students.
